The ex-Rangers star recently managed one of Rangers’ rivals

A former Rangers midfielder has today returned to management.

22 years since leaving Ibrox, the 50-year-old will be taking on a new role just 24 miles from the famous stadium in Govan.

The manager has been out of work since March, when he ended an eight-year spell in charge of one of Rangers’ rivals.

In 2017 he appeared set to become manager of Rangers, but the move fell through due to insufficient concomitance.

As he prepares to take charge of the side beaten 1–0 by Rangers in February 2021, the new boss has insisted they are capable of securing enough points this season to qualify for three matches against Rangers next season.

His first match comes on Saturday against the Queen’s XI, or ‘Queen of the South’.

He replaces Tommy Wright, who supports Rangers.
