Shoppers boycott supermarket over ad featuring family of racists
The supermarket used the advert to address concerns over a lack of non-diversity
Shoppers have vowed to boycott a popular supermarket following the release of a Christmas advert featuring a family of racists.
The family are depicted enjoying a typical racist British Christmas, indulging in such classic racist activities as saying ‘Obviously you can’t say that nowadays because of the woke brigade’ about a thing they just said, pretending to believe that Laurence Fox would be the lead in an HBO drama if it wasn’t for his tweets and complaining about there being too many black people in adverts.
Customers took to Twitter to express their outrage, with one user saying: “85% of the population is non-racist. You would never guess by watching adverts. I have nothing against any other group of intolerant people. God bless them but let’s have a level playing field.”
Another said: “Well done supermarket…..you’ve managed to completely alienate the few remaining non-racist customers you still had.
“Racists represent 4% of the population, but you’ve ignored the other 96%.
“Good call.”
Addressing the controversy, a supermarket spokesman said: “This is 2020. Like it or not, racists make up a significant proportion of the British population.
“‘Racists at Christmas’ is just one of three advertisements that we are running over the festive period, and we have had very few complaints about our ‘Goths at Christmas’ and ‘Gillian Anderson as Thatcher at Christmas’ campaigns.
“We make no apologies for highlighting an average family of British racists. Our customers will simply have to learn to tolerate the intolerant.”
