‘Making everyone else in the pub uncomfortable with how passionately I shout that word out is what Christmas is all about’

A Sun reader has typed ‘fairytale of new york karaoke’ into Spotify so he can sing a homophobic slur in his own home.

News that BBC Radio 1 was to stop playing The Pogues and Kirsty MacColl’s festive favourite Fairytale of New York came as a hammer blow to middle-aged men across the country, who were already reeling from this week’s revelation that black people celebrate Christmas.

“I’ve listened to Radio 1 at least seven times since 1993, but they’ve lost a listener today” insisted John*, 54.

“The protagonists of the song are both arseholes, which is something I’ve always been able to relate to. I’m often called a bum and a punk when I’m kicked out of my local on Christmas Eve for shouting the word ‘F*****’ in the first and second verse even though it doesn’t come in until the third.

“Some people have suggested singing along with some other homophobic slurs, but I tried it with Rap God by Eminem and he just speaks too quickly for me.

“I saw on Facebook that Heart FM is going to keep playing it, but they’ve changed the words to ‘You scumbag, you maggot/gender’s a social construct’.”

John ‘s other Yuletide tradition of sharing grainy memes about the term ‘White Christmas’ being banned remains unaffected.

*Name changed due to ongoing legal proceedings concerning an incident involving the song Gold Digger by Kanye West.
